The 1998 Harmony Sweepstakes Finals on Friday Night Live

The Olympics were in Nagano. Titanic broke all the box office records and won 11 Oscars. Two Stanford PhD candidates created a little thing called “Google.” Hugo Chávez was elected President of Venezuela, while North Korea officially became a military dictatorship. The Drudge Report released reports about the blue dress that would lead to a Presidential impeachment.

And in a cappella news, Metropolis Quartet took home the national title at Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival. Their baritone was this guy “Mike McGee” – anyone ever heard of him?

The finals also featured Ball in the House, Blind Man’s Bluff, The Heebee-jeebees, +4dB, Cool Shooz, ACApelicans, City Lights, and a reprise from SoVoSo!

Hear it all tonight at 6 pm Pacific/9 pm Eastern on Acaville! You can also catch the rebroadcast at 8 am & pm Pacific on Sunday.

Vocal HERspective Episode 16 – Caitlin Nelson

Vocal HERspective is back with Episode 16 for an interview with another leader in the NYC a cappella scene. All-Night Yahtzee alumna Caitlin O. Nelson now sings with Concrete among many other projects.

Tune in tonight at 6:30 pm Pacific for the debut or hear the rebroadcasts at 10:30 am/pm on Sunday. Download it from vocalherspective.org or your favorite podcast network on Monday!

New Tunesday – October 22, 2019

A few new fun pieces for your aca-loving ears this week!

AcaPop! Kids

The long-awaited project from Ben Bram, Scott Hoying, and Shams Ahmed debuted this week with the release of not one, but two videos. A cast of 25 was selected from over 1000 auditionees and have created the a cappella only version of KidzBop meets the Mickey Mouse Club. Only way cooler. The group is expected to take on a tour in addition to their forthcoming album and lots more videos.

Aperture

Fresh off their appearance at the AcaOpen, Aperture released this moving set of songs by Khalid, Mø, Sufjan Stevens, Billie Eilish, and Rihanna. This set received Best Original Arrangement after their performance at Carnegie Hall.
