New Tunesday – The Summer Wrap-Up

While we were out enjoy the sun, the sand, the surf, and all of the other spoils of summer, the titans of a cappella still churned out some great new music. Here are the highlights:

Pentatonix

There were a lot of mixed feelings about the Lion King remake, but there no questioning the PTX take on this classic song off the soundtrack.

BYU Vocal Point

Not to be outdone, the men of Vocal Point released their own Lion King harmonies with their cover of Circle of Life.

MICappella

It was a busy summer as always for these Singapore superstars and rumor has it there will be even more music coming soon. Get your abbreviated Chinese music history lesson now.

N’Harmonics

It is almost time to submit your applications for the 2020 ICCA season. Be inspired by the set from the 2019 champions.

Nor’Easters

They may not have made an ICCA appearance last season, but these collegiate powerhouses did take their talents to Memphis to win the NACC Collegiate Competition.

m-Pact

There’s never a bad time for Earth, Wind & Fire, especially not when covered by m-Pact, who we can’t wait to see in November for the m-Pact Vocal Festival in Kansas City.

From The Roots

SING! Texas is just around the corner, but not before you can relive this gem of an original written by Hannah Lewis.

Plus, they released another new original “Broke My Window.”

Midtown

This year’s BHS International 5th place medalists have been making quite a slash with their music videos. Have a little fun with this cover from the Goofy Movie, a follow up to their Spiderman Theme Song.

Pitch Slapped

If this is how the ladies of Pitch Slapped are kicking off the new year, we’ve got a lot more amazing music coming our way.

New England Voices in Harmony

Harmony, Inc. unleashed part of the winning set from the 2018 International Champions. Enjoy “I See The Light” arranged by Kevin Keller.

New Tunesday – June 4, 2019

Home Free

The next music video for another original song from the upcoming Home Free album “Dive Bar Saints” is here. “Remember This” was written by Home Free bass Tim Foust with Arlis Albritton, Donnie Reis, and Chris Chatham.

Pentatonix

Ok, Kevin included his cello in this cover of “Shallow,” but it’s still as masterful as we’ve come to expect from Pentatonix, so we’ll cheat a little, shall we?

Pitch Slapped

There’s a reason this group is consistently one of the best collegiate groups in the world. They just dropped this little video from their latest album, “Sincerely.” (Yeah, go ahead and download that whole thing. We’ll wait.)

Lightship Beatbox

What happens when you pair up two of the world’s best beatboxers and let them do their thing in Denver? This.

Scott & Ryceejo

K-Pop is certainly picking up in popularity stateside. Watch as this husband-wife duo takes on BLACKPINK.

Rebel Bit

Another hauntingly beautiful cover from the Italian group on the rise.

Sirens – 藍色警報

Translated as “That Night”‘ one of the biggest groups out of Taiwan give us a compelling cover – enjoyable even if you’re not fluent in Taiwanese.

Rip_Chord

Who says all-male collegiate groups can’t do emotions? Rip_Chord captures the pain that comes with love pretty perfectly in their latest release.

New Tunesday – May 28, 2019

Summer unofficially kicked off here in the U.S. while the new a cappella releases stay hot. Here are this week’s top new releases:

Pentatonix

The wave from Dear Evan Hansen hasn’t crested yet, and PTX rides it just fine.

2018 AIC Show Highlights

Counting down the minutes until the BHS International Convention in Salt Lake City this  summer? Well, this probably isn’t going to alleviate that excitement – some highlights from last year’s AIC Show:

MAZE Voices

A beautiful original song with a spot on music video – watching this group out of Aarhus makes us a little extra sad we aren’t in Denmark this week!

Limited Edition

One of the best high school groups in the US, this Ben Rector cover is the perfect fit for the powerhouses from Port Washington.

The Lost Keys

Everyone loves a good couch video and this Bastille cover hits all the right places. Check out the latest from this superstar CAL group out of NYC.

Take Flight

Perhaps the first cover of an Avi Kaplan original since the former Pentatonix bass pursued his solo career, done by Harmony Sweepstakes finalists, Take Flight.

Collaborate

A relatively new group out of London, Collaborate put a little shine on their live performance of My My My.

Tonal Ecstasy

McGill University’s oldest a cappella group performed a Vulfpeck cover to close out the spring semester.

New Tunesday – October 23, 2018

In addition to all of the great variety of a cappella you can hear ’round the clock here at Acaville Radio, we’re going to bring you some bonus releases each Tuesday to make sure you’re finding all of the latest and greatest this talented community has to offer.

Here are our favorites this week – and there are a lot of them:

Pentatonix

Along with the announcement of their newest Holiday album (coming October 26th!), Pentatonix released their Nightmare Before Christmas-inspired video for “Making Christmas.” Tickets for their “Christmas is Here!” Tour are on sale now – shows kick off in Texas on November 25.

Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition

Catch up on (or relive!) a stellar week of barbershop from St. Louis. All of the performances are now available on YouTube.

Voctave

BHS continues to release videos from their 2018 International, including Voctave’s ultimate battle of the sexes with “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun.

AIC Chorus

One of the most anticipated events of the year – the Association of International Champions comes together during International to feature past quartet winners. It’s quite magical when they all sing together, like they did for this “Dig A Little Deeper” medley.

Vocal Spectrum

The 2006 Quartet Champions have STILL got it. Here’s a signature performance of “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket” during their guest performance at the 2018 Central States District Convention.

Ndlovu Youth Choir and Wouter Kellerman

Ed Sheeran sung by a South African youth choir with a flute player mixed and mastered by Bill Hare? It’s every bit as awesome as you think it should be. So much so, we’re including it here, even with the flute!

Rockapella

Just a head of the release of Jams Vol. 2, we’re treated with a preview of “Lady Mine (Bach vs. Beethoven)” which incorporates the classics in a way that only Rockapella can.

DCappella

It was another big week for DCappella – US tour dates were announced AND they dropped another video – this time for their all vocal version of “Glory Days” from Incredibles 2.

קוינטה וחצי Quinta and a Half

Leading the way for a cappella in Israel, Quinta and a Half released a dramatic video for their cover of Rihanna’s “Diamonds.”

NoVI

The 2017 AcaOpen Finalists out of the UK just dropped a live looping cover of Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

The Bristol Suspensions

A little live video release from one of the top collegiate groups in the UK, we enjoyed this cover of Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande’s “Faith.”

The Eight Tracks

Challenging themselves to create something fun in under an hour, this Boston CAL group channeled OKGo for this quick mashup of Nick Jonas and Taylor Swift. See them LIVE with Fermata Town at Spire Center for the Performing Arts on November 30!

And no videos (yet!), but you should also check out the latest from:
