New Tunesday – October 16, 2018

In addition to all of the great variety of a cappella you can hear ’round the clock here at Acaville Radio, we’re going to bring you some bonus releases each Tuesday to make sure you’re finding all of the latest and greatest this talented community has to offer.

Here are our favorites this week:

Cluster

A little treat from their album “The Italian Project”,  Cluster surprised us with a music video for “Nessuno mi può giudicare” or “No One Can Judge Me.” and we’re all for it.

Iris

Another treat from their winning #AcaOpen set, enjoy this version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” which won both Outstanding Arrangement (Andrew John Kim) and Outstanding Soloist (Dara Orland).

Birdland Avenue

The Birds performed live at Sofar Sounds show in NYC over the summer. Here’s a clip of one of their original tunes – due out with their debut album releasing in November. You can pre-order it here.

A Cappella Academy – Collector’s Edition

It’s no surprise that talent just oozes out of campers at A Cappella Academy. Last summer’s Collector’s Edition simply blew us away. Know a teenage superstar? Applications for 2019 Camp are open now, with scholarships and financial aid available.

From The Roots

Brand new seven piece vocal band, From The Roots will be headlining SING! Texas next month. Here’s a little live video preview of their sound with “Alibi” by Lawrence:

Techapella Returns October 15th

In 2013, the Silicon Valley tech world a cappella groups came together to create an informal, non-competitive concert to share their passion for music with the world.

This showcase-like event is a huge community builder for the ever-growing circle of tech-company based a cappella groups. With sold-out crowds, varied repertoires, and even the occasional beatbox battle, this event grows in popularity each year. So much so, that they recently expanded to two shows instead of just one.

San Francisco Bay Area fans will have two chances to see Techapella live this year, with the first show on October 15th at Fox Theatre and the second show on November 4th at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The lineup for each show is different. On October 15th you’ll see:

Googapella and Alphabeat (both from Google)
The Vocal Network (Facebook)
The Keynotes (Apple)
InTune (LinkedIn)
Syncopation (Dropbox)
Funderstruck (an inter-company techie mix)
and the newest Techapella group The Chromotones (23andMe).

And on November 4th, Deke Sharon will emcee along with performances by:

Googapella (Google)
The Vocal Network (Facebook)
Songbirds (Twitter)
The Square Registers (Square)
The Pintunes (Pinterest)
Airbnbeats (Airbnb)
Scalesforce (Salesforce)
Internote (an inter-company a cappella group)

Acaville members will have access to the LIVE recording from October 15th!

Here are our favorites this week:

Face

Colorado’s favorite rock vocal band outdid themselves with this cover of Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose” with an arrangement and solo by Ryan Driver.

Drums of War

Australia’s Hip Hop and R&B a cappella band put their vocals to good use to promote mental health and suicide prevention. The group is raising funds to support beyondblue and you can support them in their Tough Mudder Half.
