A Cappella Academy Choir

Each summer, about 70 of the world’s most talented teen singers spend 10 days in Los Angeles learning from some of the best professionals in a cappella. The result is a pretty incredible concert, which always include a full choir performance. This year the choir debuted an original piece with music written by camp co-founder, Rob Dietz with lyrics by Stephanie Fischer. The intro and outro melody are taken from “The Lone Wild Bird”. Here is “Empire of Blue’:

P.S. Auditions for the 2019 Academy are open now.

Here are our favorites this week:

Chris Rupp
The founder of Home Free just dropped another video from his solo project and this time he included a veritable team of aca-all-stars for the song “Are You Ready For A Miracle?” Adam Rupp, Mykal Kilgore, Emoni Wilkins, and Elliott Robinson join Rupp for this beauty from A New Day:

Maroon 5 is a popular inspiration in a cappella circles, but you’ll enjoy this hauntingly beautiful cover from James Madison University’s all male group, especially paired with the gorgeous scenery of central Virginia.

Here are our favorites this week:

The Swingles
No one reimagines a classic like The Swingles. In this new release, we hear a Kevin Fox arrangement of the classic Fleetwood Mac song, “Go Your Own Way” sung live at St. Saviour’s Church in London. Notably, this is the last video that features now retired Soprano, Sara Brimer Davey.

DCappella
We’ve already seen the studio version, but as the touring dates near, we’re treated with a live video from this group of superstars with their island-inspired cover of Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go,” which is a little reminiscent of lighthearted feel you’d get from an Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole song.

BYU Vocal Point
Utilizing the beautiful natural scenery of Utah and Oregon, this perennially strong group of gentlemen hit this Josh Groban cover of “You Raise Me Up” out of the park. Both the audio and video was produced and directed by alumnus, McKay Crockett, with the audio mix by Ed Boyer and cinematography by Nick Sales and Morrisey Productions.

Westminster Chorus
Arguably one of the world’s best barbershop choruses, and the reigning second place international medalists, Southern California’s Westminster Chorus shared a live take of their cover of “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen.
