New Tunesday – January 22, 2019

The great music keeps on rolling in – here are some of our favorite new releases this week:

The Swingles

An original folk tune written by group tenor, Oliver Griffiths, is the perfect way to celebrate your most important relationships this new year.

Peter Hollens

The one man a cappella band brings his favorite song from Lion King. Enjoy the many faces and sounds from this irrefutable YouTube star.

The AcaLumni Project

What a nice surprise it was for the Acaville team to get a virtual Valentine from the world’s first internet-based a cappella group. “You’ve Got a Friend” is the latest release from this group of a cappella alumni from around the world. Like what you hear? Send your own valentine this year with their help!

Jared Halley

The Ohio-based YouTube star with many clones released his latest cover – this time of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

HIVE

We’re not sure there’s ever been a video that perfectly captured the essence of a group like this one. Enjoy “On and Ever Onward” arranged by Lisa Forkish.

Rifftide

Born out of the very active BYU a cappella scene, this cover of “Dream” is visually stunning with cinematography work from Tyler Edwards.

RANGE

With a roster full of up and coming Broadway stars, Range out of NYC covers Meadowlark with full blessing from Stephen Schwartz.

燃点人声乐团Ignite Vocal

Is it just us, or does it feel like we’re ready for another boy band wave? In the meantime, here’s 18 boy bands in one pretty package from Ignite Vocal out of China.

New Tunesday – January 15, 2019

2019 is already bringing us some pretty great new music, including some reinvented throwbacks of old favorites. Here are this week’s favorite new releases:

Home Free

What do you get when you mix America’s top country a cappella act and bring back our favorite a cappella R&B stylings from the 90’s? This heart-string tugging cover of “End of the Road” featuring a lead by Rob Lundquist.

David Yazbek & Sean Altman

Did you hear the news that Carmen Sandiego is back? (YES!) Did you also hear that they’re leaving out the original and incredible theme song from Rockapella? (BOO!) Never fear – the original writers of the song came through anyway – here’s the new a cappella mix of our favorite TV theme song:

Nomadic

Born out of the professional recruitment process that is June, the first batch of stars out of the program just released their first fully produced music video. With a nod to the Pentatonix duo of Scott and Mitch, better known as Superfruit, this video is anything but bad for you. The group will be headlining their first festival alongside Duwende at Nordonia A Cappella Festival in March.

Voice.Print

Sri Lanka’s a cappella boy band pays tribute to the boy bands from the ’60’s through today. Singing together since 2006, Voice.Print earned a silver and bronze medal at the World Choir Games in 2010 and can often be heard on English mainstream radio in Sri Lanka.

Elementary Mix

Although the Eagles’ bid for another Super Bowl ended last weekend, that doesn’t stop us from LOVING this cover of “Fly, Eagles, Fly” from the world’s youngest barbershop quartet. Your author is admittedly a diehard Birds fan, but we promise that its worth a listen!

New Tunesday – January 8, 2019

New year, new tunes! As we’re all stepping out of the holiday daze, here are a few of our favorite recent releases in the aca-verse.

MICappella

International superstars out of Singapore quietly dropped a bombshell with 《王妃》- Jam 萧敬腾 over the holidays with an arrangement from Tat Tong and production by an all-star team of Peter Huang, Tat Tong, Plaid Productions, and Dave Sperandio.

RESOUND

A very happy new year indeed, with the release of “Disney Medley II” from this soulful Richmond, VA trio.

Due North

2018 National Harmony Sweepstakes Finalists, Due North, kicked off the new year with a fully produced music video of their cover of “Lost on You.” This relatively new group out of the Twin Cities is pushing hard and we suspect that this is only the beginning.

Drums of War

Australian hip hop a cappella at its finest, 2015 AUSACA Champions, Drums of War, cover Talib Kweli.

Ardú

Leaders of the a cappella movement in Ireland, Ardú uses a little looping to present their version of the popular Muse song, “Madness” live in concert.

DocAcappella

Marc Silverberg is officially the Weird Al of a cappella and we can’t get enough. His latest release, “ICCA” comes just ahead of the start of the 2019 season and it’s hilariously spot-on.

New Tunesday – December 4, 2018

In addition to all of the great variety of a cappella you can hear ’round the clock here at Acaville Radio, we’re going to bring you some bonus releases each Tuesday to make sure you’re finding all of the latest and greatest this talented community has to offer.

Here are our favorites this week- and yes, there are a lot of holiday tunes – a trend we expect to continue over the next few weeks:

The Swingles

The first video featuring the group’s newest soprano, Federica Basile, is a smash hit. You were expecting anything less?

Voctave

There may be nothing more beautiful than Voctave singing holiday songs. It’s certainly something to look forward to each year, and their latest release “O Come, O Come Emmanuel/The First Noel/I Wonder As I Wander” is as good as it gets.

Y-Studs

Combining the magic of Queen with Hanukkah? We’re here for it.

Six13

More Queen. More Hanukkah. More awesome.

The Turkish a cappella group teamed up with Finnish beatboxer Tuukka Haapaniemi for this performance of  Kerimoğlu Zeybeği, mixed by Bill Hare.

Face

Leave it to the all rock band in Colorado to reimagine O Little Town of Bethlehem to the tune of House of the Rising Sun.

Upper Structure

Treat yourself to the talent that just oozes out of these Berklee College of Music students with their lead track from their 2018 ICCA Competition Set, “Freedom.”

Highline Vocal Jazz

In celebration of nearly one year as a group, Highline treated us to an inspired arrangement of O Holy Night.

Venice Vocal Jam

Singing an arrangement by Homestay Music (you know them – it’s Erik Bosio, Vinther Sørensen, and Jussi Chydeniuss) we get some Beatles love out of Italy.

Beatsync

This Toronto group typically performs with a great deal of tech, but for their DCappella Tour submission, they stripped it all down to just acoustic voices.

Scott & Ryceejo

Enjoy this new take on a classic carol from the husband and wife duo out of Utah, singing Silent Night with support from Spark Singers.

AcoUstiKats

You may have become acquainted with this group through The Sing-Off, but the tradition lives on years after the show was retired. Here are the current ‘Kats singing a Nick Johnson arrangement of Deck the Halls:

Association of International Champions

Another gem from the 2018 AIC show, this week we get to relive and enjoy “It’s a Small World” by the full AIC Chorus.
